The first and most acclaimed of Sea Trail’s three courses, its Dan Maples design opened in 1986 and incorporated the nature preserve and Calabash Creek it neighbors into the establishment of its championship layout. This traditional southern track demands accuracy from the back tees, and offers more leniency from the forward tees. This medium-length course is set up so that golfers of all levels will enjoy a memorable round.

Each hole on Sea Trail-Maples is situated in wilderness, with large pines and live oaks encircling medium-sized, undulating greens. Waste bunkers line the fairways with strategically placed water hazards on 12 of 18 holes, compelling golfers to weigh their options on aggressive versus conservative play on many holes. Each of Sea Trail-Maples’ par 5s boasts extreme length, demanding both raw skill and focus while executing shots on these challenging holes. Preserving wildlife and the natural backdrop is what allows this course to stand out amongst its competitors.

Sea Trail-Maples offers plentiful amenities including several practice greens and a large driving range, while also providing accommodations for those choosing to stay on property. Minutes from the beaches of both North Carolina and nearby South Carolina, the location and accessibility of the golf courses at Sea Trail are hard to pass up.

With recently completed renovations, it’s no surprise that in 2005 Golf Digest ranked the Maples Course among the "Top 100 Courses in North Carolina,” and in 2006 the course was honored by North Carolina Magazine as among the state’s "Top Best Conditioned Courses.” Devoted to the excellence of true Southern golf, Dan Maples fashioned a hidden Carolina gem that continues to bring hordes of golfers to play this memorable track over and over again.
