Sea Trail - Jones

A recent designer-approved renovation has made the ever-popular Jones Course even more extraordinary. Bent grass greens have been replaced and new bunkers added. Additional landscaping along fairways and hazards has been enhanced by native grasses, perennials, and wildflowers. Players of all skill levels will enjoy exceptional golf on this straightforward course with elevated greens and large expanse bunkers.

The Legendary Jones Course: A Traditional Test at Sea Trail

If you’re looking for a course with a legendary designer and timeline of history, the Jones Course at Sea Trail Resort is for you. Following its grand opening in 1990, this course held a 2006 U.S. Open Qualifier in addition to earning several more accolades. In 2005, the course was rated by Golfweek among the "Best Courses You Can Play,” and in 2006 by Golf Digest as one of the "Top 100 Golf Courses in North Carolina.”

A true test, the Jones Course at Sea Trail features water hazards on 11 of its 18 holes. However, golfers of all skill levels will find it a fair test of their game with very scorable collection of par 3s, 4s and 5s. Featuring wide fairways with a multitude of pot bunkers and mounds, this straightforward design follows a more traditional style as designed by acclaimed golf course architect Rees Jones, son of the legendary Robert Trent Jones and renowned worldwide as "The Open Doctor” for his work on a multitude of world-class designs. Beginning golfers will benefit from the Jones Course’s fairness from the middle and forward tees, while more advanced golfers will encounter a challenge from the back tees unlike other courses in the surrounding area.

While playing the Jones Course, golfers will encounter the integration of native marsh plants and large pine trees in the formation of each hole. While these obstacles seem harmless, they come into play on many holes, especially on the back nine. The small pot bunkers you find along the way can prove tumultuous if your ball finds one of them.

Minutes from the eclectic coastal town of Sunset Beach, golfers will be captivated by the beauty of the natural landscape while playing the Jones Course. There aren’t many houses lining the course, which adds to the quiet allure of Sea Trail Resort. Open to the public, the Jones Course is the perfect place to experience true, traditional golf.
