Barefoot Norman

Greg Norman's newest design at Barefoot Resort is unique in many ways. With only 60 acres of mowable grass existing on all 18 holes, Greg uses stunning waste areas and the site's natural vegetation to frame each hole. The course resembles one found in the deserts of the southwest, without the desert. The course also features several holes along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway.

Challenge and Beauty Converge at The Norman at Barefoot

The Norman Course is sometimes thought of as the "fourth” layout at Barefoot Resort, a property that was named "North American Golf Resort of the Year” by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators. But don’t make the mistake of letting the opinion of others influence your decision-making process.

Greg Norman’s signature design at Barefoot delivers a memorable round of golf, highlighted by seven holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway. The layout features generous fairways, allowing players margin for error off the tee, and they are framed by the land’s natural vegetation. The waste areas, which often run to the edge of the fairway, provide the layout visual contrast that enhances the area’s natural beauty.

Speaking of beauty, the holes along the Intracoastal are among the most photographed along the Myrtle Beach golf scene, highlighted by the par-3 10th hole. Playing from an elevated tee box to a green that borders the Waterway, the 10th hole is one golfers talk about long after they’ve returned home. The 14th and 17th holes, both par 4s, play along the Intracoastal from tee to green as well.

While the water holes attract all the attention, the course is equally strong on the more inland front nine, which gives players the opportunity to start their round strong while the challenge gradually increases.

When played from the white tees (5,718 yards), The Barefoot Norman Course offers mid- to high-handicappers the chance to score. More skilled players will discover that the course presents plenty of challenge when played form the black (6,487 yards) and platinum (7,035 yards) tees.

The Norman Course plays along the contours of the land and features open greens, providing players a different type of challenge than they are accustomed to along the South Carolina coast, and that’s part of the layout’s considerable appeal.

While some may consider Norman number four at Barefoot (seriously: is there any shame in being ranked just behind courses designed by Pete Dye, Tom Fazio and Davis Love III?), if it’s near the top of your playlist, you won’t be disappointed.
