Located along the Waccamaw River, Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club remains one of the Carolinas’ top hidden gems for a wide variety of reasons. The traditional English-style golf course contains all the beauty and rigor of a major championship-caliber golf venue. Inspired by tradition and legacy, the layout at Shaftesbury Glen was inspired by Augusta National and Winged Foot. Each hole presents a fair opportunity for birdie, but golfers will first have to acknowledge the length of its par 5s and tightness of its par 3s before deciding the way they’d like to take on each of these holes. Old-style rectangular tee boxes, wide-open fairways, and elevated Sunday Bermuda Grass greens make it easy for golfers to embrace this exciting golf course. The course even renovated recently to install 500,000 square feet of waste bunkers that add an additional challenge to the course, but they are also driveable in any condition - perfect for the wet cart-path only days.
A lengthy driving range and sizable practice green give golfers the chance to warm up before teeing off or even get some extra work in post-round. Not only is Shaftesbury Glen laid out in the Old English style, but the massive manor-like clubhouse exhibits similar detailing as well. Inside you will find pro shop goods as well as a bar and restaurant with an extensive food and beverage menu. There are many comfortable seating options flanked by several televisions, making for the perfect spot to hang out and enjoy a post-round drink with your playing partners.
Set perfectly in the forest with pine trees encircling each hole, golfers will find that the peace and quiet at Shaftesbury Glen is unmatched. It’s situated in an area that is isolated from the busy highways and residential, but just close enough so it is minutes away from a wide range of restaurants, shopping, and other luxuries in the vacation mecca that is Myrtle Beach.
Shaftesbury Glen boasts several accolades, including a four-star rating in Golf Digest’s "Places to Play” guide and garnering the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association’s "Golf Course of the Year” award in 2009. This championship layout entices golfers of all skill levels to enjoy a one-of-a-kind playing experience.
