River Club exemplifies true Southern golf. Set in the scenic Pawleys Island area, this course embodies all things Lowcountry. The original plot of land upon which the course was built was once home to a historic rice plantation, with Spanish mosses, teeming wildlife, and South Carolina marshes aplenty. The semi-private golf club is one of the premier golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area and has remained a favorite among locals and tourists alike since its opening in 1985.
On many of River Club’s 18 holes, dramatic fairway and greenside bunkers lie in wait, and many shots are within distance of intimidating water hazards. Water comes into play on 14 of the 18 holes, so be prepared to tackle demanding tee shots, and play it safe when possible. Wide-open fairways accompany large, undulating Champion Bermudagrass greens that make successful risk-reward tee and approach shots all the more exhilarating. While the course as a whole holds the attention of its challengers, the breathtaking 14th and 18th holes have been noted by The Sun News as among "The 100 Greatest Holes Along the Grand Strand” and speak for themselves in their unmatched beauty and rigor.
Awarded 4.5 stars in Golf Digest’s prestigious "Places to Play” Guide and named a "Top Place to Play” in 2006, this stretch of 18 holes was carved right into the heart of one of the most picturesque places along the Carolina Coastline. It boasts the proud label as one of the top plantation-style layouts in the Southeast, due in part to its prevalence of indigenous wildlife and the course’s intent to preserve the organic landscape in the original production of its layout. The widespread silence of the Carolina forests and swampy marshlands make this golf course attractive to players looking to get away from the chaos of everyday life. Pristine wetlands and maritime forests are plentiful, with scenic vistas throughout, that add to the spectacular challenge that will forever define River Club.
