Legends Resort has been one of the Myrtle Beach area’s most popular properties since Moorland and Heathland, both Scottish-inspired designs, opened in 1990. The Parkland Course rounded out the popular trio and brought a different dimension to the facility when it opened two years later.
As the name suggests, Parkland enjoys a more traditional design, featuring no shortage of tree-lined fairways, native areas, deep-faced bunkers, and, like its sister courses, large undulating greens. While Moorland is by reputation the most difficult course at Legends, there is a case to be made that Parkland is the resort’s sternest test.
With relatively tight fairways, golfers need to find the short grass off the tee. Playing from the trees or fairway bunkers is a recipe for a long day on a course with well-protected greens.
While Parkland is a tough test, the most enjoyable hole is its shortest par 4. The 9th hole plays just 311 yards from the tips (267 yards from the green tees), allowing players to dream of driving the green in search of birdie or, dare we say it, better.
Golfers can play the hole, which features a narrow green defended by several bunkers, in a variety of ways. Those choices are what make No. 9 so much fun to play, and they carry over to the back nine.
A round at Parkland typically includes a buffet breakfast, lunch and two beverages, enhancing the value players receive. When the layout is paired with its sister courses at Legends, Oyster Bay and Heritage Club, it’s part of one of America’s most popular golf packages.
The large Scottish-inspired clubhouse welcomes players to a property that also includes on-site accommodations, the ever popular Ailsa Pub, golf and a 30-acre lighted driving range, making it an ideal home for a golf trip.
