Carolina National is truly a hidden gem nestled along the banks of the Lockwood Folly River. This track challenges golfers with holes featuring strategically placed water hazards, swampy marshlands, and crafty bunkers. The course was designed in 1998 as an Audubon International Certified Sanctuary course, given this distinction due to its preservation of the environment and local wildlife. Sitting just north of Ocean Isle Beach, players receive a taste of all that coastal North Carolina golf has to offer while playing the 27 holes of this this Fred Couples signature design.

Each golfer has four sets of tees from which to choose. From the moment of the first tee shot to the final putt, golfers may encounter each of the birds for which Carolina National’s three sets of 9 holes are named. The Egret, Heron, and Ibis courses each offer their own unique challenges wrapped by the area’s natural beauty. The trio provides a fair challenge for players of all levels, no matter which set of 9 holes you choose to play. Two unique additions to the course are "The Short Course,” which features a 1,500 yard setup that allows players to enjoy the game at a more laid-back pace; and "The Ibis Par 3 Course,” which is only available on Sundays beginning at 2 p.m. where each hole on the Ibis course is transformed into a par 3 course modeled after the Augusta National Par 3 Course. There is truly something for everyone at Carolina National!

Tricky, undulating greens and high Bermuda grass rough are a common theme on each of Carolina National’s 27 holes, with Lowcountry marshes and riverbanks throughout the golf course making for an unforgettably picturesque experience. The natural obstacles only add to the layout’s complexity, making this course a true test of abilities. Whether you’re feeling the desire to play a round of 18 or maybe just test out the par 3 course, golfers will leave Carolina National feeling they experienced Carolina golf in its truest form.
