The Wizard is links-inspired design, something that becomes immediately apparent when players get their first glimpse of the course’s clubhouse, which is modeled after a Scottish castle.

When golfers begin play, they challenge a layout that is among the area’s most player-friendly. With four sets of tees ranging from 4,972 yards to 6,721 yards, this is a design largely devoid of trees and features generous fairways, providing every opportunity to score.

Among the Scottish elements players enjoy are rolling fairways, native grasses, stacked sod bunkers and ample mounding. Much like the Olde Country, pot bunkers that aren’t always visible from the tee dot the course, introducing some of the unpredictability people love about links golf.

Architect Dan Maples crafted a layout that transports golfers to the Scottish Highlands, offering them a glimpse of the game’s birthplace, but The Wizard isn’t just a links-style design.

The course opens with a watery, dogleg right par 5 and closes with three holes that run along a lake, most memorably on the island green, par-3 17th, which plays 155 yards from the regular tees. That’s followed by the par-4 18th hole, which features an approach to a peninsula green, making it one of the day’s most daunting shots.

In addition to a creative design, players appreciate The Wizard's bentgrass greens, which continue to be outstanding. Course owner Claude Pardue had each greens site custom built, and the putting surfaces are smooth and, best of all, always in premium condition during the peak spring and fall seasons.

In a market with 90 courses, The Wizard has carved out its niche providing golfers with a taste of Scotland and the best of contemporary American design.

The Wizard is part of the ever-popular Mystical Golf Group, joining its sister courses The Witch and Man O’ War.
