Heritage Club, which has been ranked among "America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses,” is one of the Myrtle Beach area’s best designs. The Pawleys Island layout enjoys a stunning piece of Lowcountry property and the course is one of Dan Maples’ finest.
The layout plays through soaring live oak trees and along the marshy waters of the Waccamaw Neck, an unforgettable canvas for a golf course. Heritage Club is a shotmaker’s design, rewarding precision and power in equal doses.
Heritage Club has five sets of tees ranging from 5,201 yards to 7,118 yards and it’s vital that golfers play from the proper spot. The challenge is real and teeing off from the appropriate tees maximizes your enjoyment of the round.
The greens at Heritage Club are among the Myrtle Beach area’s largest and most undulating, highlighted by the unforgettable 13th hole. Playing 175 yards (white tees), the par 3 requires a long carry over water to a green that includes the proverbial elephant buried in the middle.
Hitting the proper spot on the putting surface at No. 13 is vital, as it is throughout the day at Heritage. While the 13th hole attracts a lot of attention, it’s far from the only highlight of your round.
The par-5 2nd hole features a dual fairway that presents players with a risk-reward decision, starting the round with early drama, and the par-5 18th, with water running to the front of the green, is an ideal conclusion to a day at Heritage Club.
While the layout has multiple "signature”-type holes, it’s the totality of the Heritage Club experience that players find so enjoyable. From the drive in through an alley of oak trees to the venerable clubhouse, Heritage Club oozes Southern charm and players can’t get enough.
This is a bucket list course.
