The Myrtle Beach World Am Golf Tournament is the world’s largest amateur golf tournament, attracting more than 3,000 players each year. Since it began in 1984, it has welcomed golfers of all skill levels to compete on some of the Grand Strand’s premier golf courses. Unlike many amateur tournaments that primarily cater to elite players, the World Am is designed for golfers to compete against others with similar playing abilities. Participants are grouped into flights based on handicap, age, and gender, creating competitive divisions for everyone from scratch golfers to recreational players. The tournament is also one of the largest women’s golf events in the world, with more than 400 female participants each year. Golfers travel from all 50 states and more than 20 countries to compete over four rounds (72 holes) at courses throughout the Myrtle Beach area. Tournament rounds are played on more than 50 award-winning courses throughout Myrtle Beach, the Golf Capital of the World, many of which were designed by legendary architects such as Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Mike Strantz, and Rees Jones. Some of the featured courses include:-Barefoot Resort (Dye, Fazio, Love, and Norman)–Caledonia Golf and Fish Club–Glen Dornoch–Grande Dunes Resort Course (Championship Host)–Rivers Edge Golf Club–Tidewater Golf Club–TPC Myrtle Beach–True Blue Golf Club Once the final putt drops each afternoon, competitors head to the World’s Largest 19th Hole, the tournament’s signature post-round celebration. Held Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, the event features complimentary food and beverages, live entertainment, special guests, prize giveaways, and skills contests. It serves as the social centerpiece of tournament week, where golfers reconnect with friends, share scores, and swap stories from their flight. More than $100,000 in prizes will be awarded throughout tournament week. The top finishers in over 60 flights, along with winners of on-course contests, will receive prizes. Flight champions will earn a $600 PGA Tour Superstore gift card, and second through fifth place will receive gift cards valued at $300, $150, $75, and $50. The grand prize includes a trip of a lifetime for four people valued at more than $7,500. Daily skills contests, including closest to the pin, long drive, straight drive, and low net, give over 500 participants additional opportunities to win prizes. Contest awards include gift cards, TaylorMade Golf clubs, complimentary entry into other PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com events, and more. Tournament festivities begin with player check-in on August 29th and 30th at the Myrtle Beach PGA TOUR Superstore, located across from Broadway at the Beach.
