Course Spotlight: International World Tour Golf Links

World Tour Open 09

Here’s a riddle for you. How do you travel to nine different states and two countries including Canada and Scotland, all without leaving the city limits of Myrtle Beach? The answer is International World Tour Golf Links.

This par-72 course features replica holes from some of the nation’s top-ranked courses as well as some further from home. With the opportunity to play the same holes as some of the greats, it goes without saying that few experiences exceed the one awaiting you at World Tour Golf Links.

The front nine at World Tour, referred to as the Open Nine, includes spectacular golf holes from courses that have hosted either a U.S. or British Open. One of the highlights of the Open Nine is the par-3 3rd Hole that resembles the 17th Hole at the Stadium Course of TPC Sawgrass. Although the hole may seem easy from the comfort of your own living room when watching players dunk it in the surrounding hazard, you may have a different reaction after stepping up to the tee box for yourself. The final hole on the Open Nine is a tribute to the 18th at St. Andrews. It features a replica of the Swilcan Bridge and the infamous “Valley of Sin” that guards the green.

The back nine at World Tour includes holes synonymous with all four of the men’s major championships. Although each hole is outstanding in its own right, it’s awfully difficult not to be blown away by Myrtle Beach’s very own Amen Corner. A trio of holes on the Championship Nine pay tribute to the 11th, 12th and 13th Holes at Augusta National. The only things missing are the abundant azaleas and Tiger Woods!

After your round, be sure to stop by the Player’s Grille for the club’s delicious Reuben sandwiches or dine outside on the veranda overlooking the final hole of the Championship Nine, inspired by the 11th Hole at Bay Hill.

Among a number of accolades, World Tour has most notably been awarded the “National Golf Course of the Year” by Golf Digest in 2008 and has been named the “Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association.

The design of World Tour seamlessly brings together some of the world’s most outstanding holes. Although each is a replica, the experience of playing a round at World Tour is completely original.

Take the Fast Lane to Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Whisky River!

Dale Jr.'s Whisky River in North Myrtle Beach

North Myrtle Beach residents said goodbye to Overtime Sports Cafe in early 2018 and have officially welcomed Dale Jr.’s Whisky River in its place. The new sports bar and restaurant, owned by NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr., is just one of four locations in the entire Carolinas. Since opening its doors approximately seven months ago, the restaurant has experienced nothing but success.

The Whisky River menu offers a wide variety of appetizers, burgers, wings, ribs, sandwiches, salmon and chicken entrees as well an array of salads for those looking for a more wholesome meal. And don’t forget to check out their delicious dessert menu too!

The menu also features an extensive selection of bottled and draft beers, cocktails and wine. Arguably the most enticing thing about the bar, though, is its unbeatable happy hour. Everyday from 4-7 p.m., Whisky River serves $5 fried pickles, nachos, cheese quesadillas, chicken tenders, and buffalo popcorn shrimp. In addition, they offer $3 house wines per glass and $2.50 daily draft specials.

Cowhide upholstery and rustic, Western elements make for a fun and relaxed atmosphere. But what’s an authentic sports bar without a mechanical bull? That’s right, they’ve got that, too! Whisky River also features a stage for live music and DJs to cement its place in the nightlife scene. And you’re never too far from the racetrack or the field thanks to dozens of televisions surrounding the bar area and scattered throughout the restaurant.

Whisky River’s location also places it just blocks from the ocean and near a number of outstanding nearby golf courses. Its delicious food, tasty drinks, and undeniable entertainment have made Whisky River a popular 19th Hole destination among locals and tourists alike. It’s the perfect post-round spot to include on your next golf trip!

Course Spotlight: Tidewater Golf Club

Tidewater 12 (1)

Between the Intracoastal Waterway and the saltwater marshes of the Carolina coast sits Tidewater Golf Club, one of the area’s most sought after golf destinations.

The course itself, just a short drive north from downtown Myrtle Beach, feels a world away from the busy city.

Designed by Ken Tomlinson, this par 72 layout weaves its way through the natural Lowcountry landscape to make for a truly special round of golf. Featuring views of the Cherry Grove Marsh and glimpses of the Atlantic Ocean, courses like Tidewater are few and far between.

Upon its opening in 1990, the course was recognized by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as the “Best New Course” and remains the only course to have received the award by both publications. However, these were just the first of 40 more awards that Tidewater would receive over the next two decades.

One glance at the coastal views accompanying nine different holes at Tidewater and you’ll quickly understand why the course has been deemed “The Pebble Beach of the East.”

The first of multiple memorable holes is the par-3 No. 3 that overlooks the inlet. A prevalent ocean wind and threatening hazard leave many risk-reward opportunities, a common theme throughout the remainder of the course.

But Tidewater’s signature hole is the par-3 12th, appropriately named “The Wishing Well.” Saltwater marsh and strategic bunkering guard most of the green, so an accurate tee shot is crucial. The thousands of golf balls embedded into the marsh mud are the most accurate testimony to the true difficulty of the hole.

Equally as impressive as the holes featuring the coastal marshes and waterways are those set up among tree-lined fairways. It offers a break from the sea breezes and allows for more accessible birdie opportunities.

Topgolf Coming to Myrtle Beach in Early 2019

Greg Norman says it’s “just what golf needs.”

The brand itself proudly proclaims that “it doesn’t matter who you are. If you play, you’ve never experienced anything like this.”

And major markets across the country have already embraced the concept, including Phoenix, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Dallas and Houston. So will Chicago, the Beltway, Monterrey in Mexico and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates in the coming weeks and months.

Now, Topgolf is coming to Myrtle Beach in early 2019 – and bringing with it all the entertainment bells and whistles that have made it a pop culture phenomenon.

Topgolf offers golf as the platform for a one-of-a-kind leisure experience. The new Myrtle Beach location, located off 29th Avenue North and Grissom Parkway, will roll out a high-tech golf game as part of an entertainment complex that pairs with a full-service restaurant and bars, climate-controlled hitting bays, music, hundreds of HDTVs and even a rooftop terrace with a fire pit.

Topgolf is perfectly suited for group gatherings large or small, and offers private event spaces and meeting rooms to accommodate a wide array of business and social interests. And as you prepare for your first evening out at Topgolf Myrtle Beach, remember: pricing is determined by hitting bay use per hour, not by person. So the more friends, family and associates you can bring along to enjoy the fun, the more bang for your entertainment buck you’ll get.

A lifetime membership is available for a one-time charge of $5, and with it comes free club rentals, access to play Topgolf’s signature games at any of its worldwide venues, and the ability to track the points you score by hitting balls into the targets. Additional membership opportunities will soon be available for unlimited game play among other benefits.

Stay tuned to the Topgolf Myrtle Beach website for more details on pricing, hours of operation, news and more as it nears its early 2019 opening date!

Make Your Spring Golf Vacation Majestically Mystical

Dan Maples outdid himself with each of his three designs available on our Mystical 3-Round Package. Between The Witch, The Wizard and Man O’War, Maples offers distinct yet compelling takes on course design while ensuring a quality experience throughout.

One factor that sets this trio of award-winning designs apart from the rest is in Mystical Golf’s commitment to presenting its visiting golfers with year-round, lush green playing conditions. While most Grand Strand designs overseed their primary playing surfaces (tee boxes and fairways) during the winter months, Mystical Golf has done so in “wall to wall” fashion by extending the practice to all playing areas of each golf course (with the sole exception of the bentgrass greens at The Wizard and Man O’War, which don’t require winter overseeding as they maintain their premium playing conditions in the cooler months).

And for our friends arriving from colder climates that have already been blanketed with plenty of white stuff, the sight of emerald green grass greeting their arrival – no matter what time of year they arrive – will be just what the doctor ordered!

In addition to an exceptional golfing experience, each round on the Mystical Package includes lunch and two beers for each person in your group at the golf course you’re playing that day. If you need lodging, accommodations options range from premium oceanfront condos to golf course lodging to executive beach homes. From Barefoot Resort and North Beach Plantation along the North Strand to Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort in Pawleys Island, the lodging choices along the Grand Strand’s 60-mile stretch of sandy beaches are plentiful.

Our friendly golf vacation experts are ready and waiting to help get your spring trip planning in high gear. You can get started by filling out a Quick Quote, or giving us a call at 800-422-1587. We can’t wait to see you!

Hole Spotlight: No. 11 at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club

The Myrtle Beach golf scene offers plenty of memorable golf holes, including several along the South Strand and at one award-winning design in particular: Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, which among its many accolades has been cited by Golf Magazine as one of “America’s Top 100 Courses You Can Play.”

While the finishing hole here gets its fair share of attention for its challenge, beauty and famous clubhouse back porch audience cheering on your approach, we highlight here one of the more picturesque holes at Caledonia – the par-3 11th Hole, where former PGA TOUR pro Hugh Royer III takes you on a playing tour to show you how best to play it.

Standing here on the 11th Hole at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, this is a hole that gives you a look that you just puts you in awe!

From these tees, you’ve got 147 yards to a front pin. If the pin were in the back left, you could be talking another 30 yards of length on this hole – a three-club difference depending on pin placement, easily. You can see there’s a creek that runs through here with the tall, natural grass … it’s just a gorgeous setting and a great golf hole.

So at 147 yards, I’m going to take an 8 iron, catch it just to the right of the flag (there’s a nice little ramp or backstop in there), and see if we can’t put something in there nice and close.

(My shot here was) not too bad, just right of the flag, caught the slope and came down nicely. Leaves us about 15 feet for a shot at birdie, and at least get ourselves a par and move on to the next hole!

Our Beach’s Best Package and Grand Slam Package are just two of many ways can help you experience the splendor of Caledonia Golf & Fish Club for yourself. Visit our packages page to see these options and more, or give us a call at 800-422-1587 and we’ll be ready to help you get your spring golf plans in motion!

Package Spotlight: The Grand Slam

In baseball, it doesn’t get much more thrilling than seeing your favorite team take the lead on a dramatic, bases-loaded home run. And one of golf’s most lofty achievements is winning each of the game’s majors, a feat that only five legends of the sport (Sarazen, Hogan, Player, Nicklaus and Woods) have ever realized.

In each case, achieving the “Grand Slam” reflects something uniquely special – as it does when you plan a Myrtle Beach golf getaway on our Grand Slam Package.

This one-of-a-kind golfing experience includes six of the Grand Strand’s premier course offerings – “The Best of the North and South” along our 60-mile stretch of golfing mecca. On the south end, you’ll play two of “America’s Top 100 Courses You Can Play” as honored by Golf Magazine: Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club, each a Mike Strantz design noted for their unique and spectacular presentation of Lowcountry golf.

Your north end options are “Myrtle Beach’s Fantastic Four” at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach, honored in 2017 as North America’s Golf Resort of the Year by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators. Pete Dye, Greg Norman, Tom Fazio and Davis Love III have each placed their signature on a Barefoot design, and each course delivers a pulse-racing experience that will leave you with golfing memories to last a lifetime.

The Grand Slam Package offers flexibility – play four rounds featuring Caledonia, True Blue and two of four Barefoot designs, or play all six for the ultimate upscale Myrtle Beach golf getaway. Lodging options are plentiful, ranging from oceanfront condos to executive beach homes to multiple choices at Barefoot Resort.

Visit our package page to learn more about this exciting opportunity for a premium spring golf getaway, or give us a call at 800-422-1587 and we’ll be happy to lend a hand in organizing all your golf travel needs. We look forward to hearing from you!

Course Profile: Heritage Club

Sprawling oak trees line both sides of the road, a centuries-old welcome to Heritage Club – one of Myrtle Beach’s best golf courses. The magnitude of the trees immediately sets the tone for one of Myrtle Beach’s most memorable rounds of golf, tying players to the property’s rich history.

There are hundreds of oak trees at Heritage, but the line that guides players to the clubhouse is the most impressive, and they aren’t there by happenstance.

More than 200 years ago, the rows of trees were planted to divide the road leading to the original plantation home from the rest of the property.

From the entrance through the peninsula green on No. 18, Heritage is one of the Myrtle Beach area’s prettiest layouts and it has an abundance of character.

The property used to be home to one of the world’s most productive rice and indigo plantations; the final resting place of its owner, Mr. Pawley (after whom Pawleys Island was named), is located just off the fourth hole.

But a course doesn’t earn the ranking of No. 33 on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses on the strength of beauty and character alone. Heritage Club is one of designer Dan Maples’ finest works.

The Pawleys Island course has length at 7,118 yards from the gold tees (6,656 yards blue tees/6,310 yards white tees), but it’s a layout that favors shot makers over raw power.

Precision off the tee is vital because Heritage is a second-shot golf course, due in large part to some of the Grand Strand’s largest and most undulating greens. This South Strand gem has three greens that are more than 50 yards deep, so merely hitting the putting surface often isn’t enough. Players need to be in the right spot.

The greens at Heritage, which opened in 1986, are typically bunkered but the approaches are open, giving the players the option to play the bump-and-run, a lost art on many modern courses. The open approach areas also provide high handicappers more margin for error.

Water comes into play on 11 holes, most memorably No. 13 and No. 18, the layout’s two peninsula greens.

Maples’ work at Heritage is creative throughout, presenting choices and opportunity. But along with the freedom comes risk. For example, the dual fairway is a relatively common architectural trait, but at Heritage, Maples gives players two distinct choices on the par-5 second hole.

After the drive, which shouldn’t go more than 260 yards, players must make a choice. The shorter, left fairway requires an approach over four par-killing bunkers and a green that runs from front to back.

The right fairway plays a little longer and the approach requires a carry over the lake that separates the fairways, but the bunkers don’t come into play and players have more green to work with.

All in all, Heritage is a great golf course. No matter how you are playing, it’s impossible not to enjoy the course’s Lowcountry setting. The oak trees draped in Spanish moss and the marsh have helped created a natural environment that is a stunning home for a golf course.

Do you want to add this Myrtle Beach gem to your next golf trip? If so, we recommend considering the Legends Golf Package, which features a number of different options, including 4 night/3 round options that include free daily breakfast, lunch and 2 beers!
