Three Great Holes at The Avocet Course at Wild Wing

Take flight at this star of the central strand

Located off Highway 501 in central Myrtle Beach, Wild Wing-Avocet is a design collaboration of Jeff Brauer and Larry Nelson, presenting a truly spotlight-worthy golf experience that is contemporary and challenging. The course, which plays to a par 72 and measures more than 7,100 yards from the back tees, can be booked as an individual tee time or as part of a golf package with MBGolf.com. It really is a must-play during your time in Myrtle Beach!

Wild Wing-Avocet features several signature holes you won’t want to miss, including Nos. 6, 17 and 18. One iconic aspect of the Wild Wing playing experience is its ginormous double green, shared between Nos. 6 and 17. Put simply, the double green is perhaps the most jaw-dropping putting surface anywhere along the Grand Strand, and features so many tiers and undulations, it can become mind-boggling to read your putt. Be sure to hit your approach on the correct tier of the green, or else you could be in for real trouble.

From the tee, No. 6 is a long par 4 with water running down the left of the fairway and trees/OB down the right. If you hit a poor drive, it will be impossible to have any sort of angle into the double green’s lower side, which services the hole. Meanwhile, from the other direction, No. 17 is a scenic par 3 that forces players to hit over a sizeable marsh that fronts the higher side of the double green. Be sure to take extra club here as the hole plays longer than it looks from the tee and coming up short will spell penalty strokes.

No. 18 at Wild Wing is a proper finishing hole, with water down the entire left side and a challenging green that slopes from back to front. Hit a good drive here and give yourself a chance to put one close with a short iron and sink a birdie to finish your day.

Locals and visitors alike find Wild Wing-Avocet to be everything they expect of a championship-caliber course, with beautifully framed tee shots, strategically placed bunkers, prevalent lakes, subtle mounding and world-class greens.
